The Shakay survive by running away, and hiding. Living on the outskirts of the desert, they hide from the Raushu. Within the mountains, living inside of caves, they must be wary of creatures that make their homes there.

They have adapted this lifestyle of avoidance, and to a lesser extent their environment.

Though generally disadvantaged, they have knowledge of trade routes between the mountains that allow them to facilitate trade between all of the factions.

With great big eyes, they see in the dark.

Some mutants in the species can only see in total darkness and have an aversion to sunlight. They belong to the caves, and are given secret knowledge of passages and how to travel through them.

They keep secret knowledge to remain in power. For if someone was to chart a safe passage between the mountains it would overthrow their hold on the planet.

Imagine smeagol in Mordor, they know the way to go.
